Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Stony Brook is committed to providing the best education for all students. We strive to prepare students for success in the 21st century by delivering a comprehensive curriculum in an innovative and creative manner. At Stony Brook, we believe in: children coming first to reach their individual potential; enhancing students’ desire to become life-long learners; creating a safe learning environment that promotes acceptance of all learners; having students actively engaged in child-centered classrooms; and emphasizing ethical, social, and emotional character development.

Stony Brook is proudly recognized as a National School of Character (2024-2029). We actively engage our students and staff in our overarching expectations; Be Nice, Be Fair, Be Respectful, Be Your Best. These values are embedded throughout our school’s daily routines, procedures, and lessons. Our Positive Behavior Support in School (PBSIS) program is a collaborative program with UMDNJ and NJDOE to develop and implement universal positive behavior. Our PBSIS program has been recognized as a showcase school in New Jersey.

Technology plays a critical role in learning for each of our approximately 360 students. Interactive Smartboards, 1:1 Chromebooks, classroom FM systems, and our state-of-the-art media center offer multiple opportunities for our students to take control of their own learning while fostering an environment that embraces risk taking, critical thinking, and developing communication and leadership skills.

Our parents and community play an integral role in our school activities. Stony Brook's supportive PTA is instrumental in organizing cultural events, family activities, and educational programs for our students. We appreciate this partnership and we value the importance of maintaining a strong school to home connection.
